Kilt #2 complete!

Here's my second kilt that I completed a few weeks ago. I used Barb T and Elsie's book, of course. The fabric is not wool. It's that inexpensive tartan from Joann's but it is Cunningham so I'm happy. It is retaining its pleats fairly well too.

Excuse the soccer socks. It's all I had available at the time.

Now to make one for my son. He wants his to be a casual length rather than traditional tank.

I think it took a little over fifty hours total. I went slow so I wouldn't have to rip out any stitching. I only had to take out the third pleat I stitched when I saw it was a little wavy.

A tip for anyone planning on using the book: I read it through twice and then went back a third time and highlighted every step that pertained to my kilt. It really helped me to have a clear understanding of the directions.

I've looked for tartans and Joanne's, what section did you find it in?

I believe that they have it in stock in August just before the school year starts. I think it's called Homespun and it's intended for school uniforms. My local Joann's has it in Black Watch, Cunningham, and about 5 or 6 other tartans. Most of them aren't labeled properly by their tartan name. The Cunningham was labeled Red/Black/White on the bolt when I bought it. So you may have to know some basic tartans before making your purchase. Or have a smartphone with you to be able to look it up. All of them that I saw were a "real" tartan, an actual clan tartan.

A quick work on "soccer" socks. Though not traditional I have found they look pretty good and for the warmth of a southern summer they are a life saver compared to wool. I know that the dyed-n-the-wool (no pun intended...ok maybe a little intended) will go into tantrums and shall pull there hair out by the roots but I hope that I can be forgiven anyway. Walking around all day at Highland Games in 80+ degree weather is tough in full wool socks (my Scottish blood makes me a cold natured person apparently). Again please forgive me...

Nicely done Brother. As one kiltmaker to another. I also base my work on The Book, though I have made some tactical changes to accommodate my left-handed approach to anything.
