A lament for a kilt (or the shortest kilt life)
The StillWater Thrifty Kilts were everything I had wanted and needed in a lightweight work kilt. Very comfortable in hot weather, washable and did I mention comfortable?
Two days after receiving mine, it started to rain and our neighbors came over and let us know there was cat stuck on the roof of our three-story house and it had been there for at least a day.
Its amazing how a female's expectant gaze can turn barbarians into gentleman, so I climbed up the antenna tower next to the house and did a careful transfer onto the now slick rooftop and crossed to the far corner of the roof to get the kitty.
Well, as to be expected, the cat was having none of that and made it quite clear that it did not wanted to be rescued by such a person as I, and then climbed into the rain gutter to prove its point. Alas, though I was willing to go after the cat, the very edge of a peaked roof in the rain ... was more than I was willing.
As I sat there, considering my options, including removing said kilt and trying to wrap the cat in it, the cat decided that the rain gutter was not the best of hiding places at the moment and came out ... saw me and redoubled its unhappy sounds.
Twas not my choice, but the cat decided that it would rather take a leap of faith and find out of the ground was friendly then accept my help. From what I am told, the cat did land on all fours and took off running like the Devil 'imself was chasing.
After a bit of time I extracted myself from tree and roof, but the kilt shall never quite be the same. The rough roof, tree branches and rain all worked together .... while I always knew that a work kilt would get a little rough in some areas, I had hoped it would have stayed nicer just a /tad/ longer.
And it would be nice if I could just order a replacement backside for the one that got torn up sliding across the roof and being attacked by trees...
Who else has had 'unexpected disaster' happen to a kilt?
BTW, I am still extremely happy with the Thrifty Kilt and just send in payment for two more. The focus here isn't the quality of the kilt, but the abuse it went through ...
