    Hair Sporran Sources

I too am looking for an evening, formal wear sporran. Some of the fur sporrans look lovely, but as a long-time vegetarian, I'm uneasy about wearing such, so would prefer a hair sporran.

There are some lovely ones in the UK, and they cost more than two hand-made kilts. www.sporrans.com (Craigie Originals) had some good ones last Friday, but yesterday their web site was gone and their phone number disconnected. I'm willing to pay for something nice, but have limits. Anyone have suggestions? Has Craigie Originals gone out of business?

L&M makes hair sporrans, though I'm not sure how functional they are (i.e., if they have a big enough pouch or a pouch at all). I'm sure any company that carries other L&M sporrans could order you a hair sporran; if not, a number of companies use L&M's custom sporran designer that lets you make your own hair sporran, the Scottish Tartans Museum among them.

    Good luck!

Yes, I've looked at L&M. I think I preferred the cantle offerings from Craigie Originals over the L&M. By the way, I think your black on black selection is smashing; but what kind of tartan would work with it?

    Thanks, MacBean!

I agree that L&M's cantle options are a bit lacklustre.

My clan tartan is the MacQueen tartan. I think the black on black would look good on the predominantly red tartan or on any similar tartans that are predominantly a brighter colour.

    Good luck!

Be sure to check out Skye Highland Outfitters. Josh made this hair sporran below, and I've got him making another one as we speak.
