National Tartan Day?
So, I read online National Tartan day for the US is April 6th? I was thinking I might wear a kilt to work on that day. My question is, what dress would you guys recommend? I do government work for the DOJ in an office-type building, filing, making copies. Also, it is in my genetics to sweat--a lot. Tips would help, that way I don't make a wooly, sweaty fool of myself. Thanks!
Slainte,
Zach

Whatever kind of shirt and shoes you normally wear, wear them with the kilt, and replace your normal socks with kilt hose. Since you have a gov't job, knives are probably forbidden, so leave the sgian at home. And take pictures, if regs allow.

Fellow government worker and perspirant here
I've leanred to match the dress of the day for work: I.e. If you normally wear a polo and khakis, then any coordinating polo or dress shirt with a kilt and hose should be fine.
I'm usually cooler in a kilt then I am in p@nTz.
If you wear a tie and shirt--then I do the same with the kilt outfit--sometimes adding a waistcoat-but ONLY if its cool out.
And then finally--the suit option for me is to either wear a wasitcoat, shirt and tie, or the waistcoat, shirt, tie and jacket.
I've had no problem with supervision or staff about wearing any of the above.
If you expect to roast through the day--you may forego the kilt and opt for a tartan tie or waistcoat.

Great points well taken! I forgot to mention I live in Phoenix, so by April it will probably be in the 90s haha! But, I'd rather be sweaty and kilted than sweaty and panted..lol...panted?

First of all I would not wear a dress. I would wear the kilt.
I would not risk your job over your attire. Check first and see if any overseers will be ruffled.
Wear it with a short sleeve dress shirt and proper hose - something light-weight but dignified with flashes. You can wear the shirt open at the neck or with a tie depending on what the office culture requires.
Do it with dignity, head held high and a big smile. Remember: 97% of women like men in kilts!

Lol yes, kilt over dress always! ;-) And I cleared it with my supervisor, but I still may need to clear it by some others. Wouldnt it go against EEO or whatever to deny me the right if it be a heritage thing?

My opinion? Better to keep working than be out of work and fighting an uphill battle to get re-hired or looking for another job.

I have to agree, depending on the work culture.
If wearing a kilt to work would be completely unexpected, I would at the very least let your supervisor know that it is your intention to wear a kilt on National Tartan Day. You might do so by informing your supervisor of the significance of National Tartan Day and how it was established to recognize those of Scottish decent and thier contributions to the United States. Chances are they will be very accepting and interested.
Just my 2 cents.

Sorry...by the time I finished my previous response, I just noticed you already informed your supervisor. I wouldn't worry too much about others if your supervisor is okay with it.

It's alright, I am basically sitting here refreshing the page and posting so it's expected haha. Anyhow, I totally agree with you guys. Although, it's a tragedy I have to ask before I wear a kilt...alas, such is life.
