I finally wore my kilt out this past Friday night. It was the "When Everyone Is Irish" party put on by the Michigan Irish Music Festival. The also featured the band "The Kreellers".

I was pretty nervous as I this was the first time wearing it out in public. When we arrived at the venue, I could feel the eyes upon me.

I was the first in kilt there. (3) other men in kilts showed up later, so I did not feel as out of place.

The ladies serving food, told me I looked very nice.

My wife said I was very handsome and the best looking kilted man of the evening.

I spoke with each of the other (3) kilted men. It was interesting to see other kilted men in person.

1. His kilt looked strange and when I asked him about it, he told me the material had been on sale at JoAnn Fabrics and his wife had made it for him. He asked me, if I was wearing mine in "traditional" fashion. I thought that odd to ask me as he did not know me.

2. The second guy had generic tartan and looked like he had come from a ren fair. It was the very tall boots that give him that ren-fair look I think.

3. The third person was wearing his family tartan and his kilt looked very sharp. It looked vey well made and he looked very proper. His kilt made mine pale in comparison.

I did not receive any odd comments from any men other than from kilted wearer number 1.

We did have one couple ask to take a picture with them so they could send it to their son, so he could see what he was missing.

Then my wife sent me to the bar to get her a drink.

At the bar were (4) loverly ladies. As soon as I walked up:

"Is that your purse?"
"What are you wearing under the kilt?"
"Would you do a somersault for us?"
"Do you wear that every day?"
"Are you married?"

The questions came so fast, I could not say anything witty. I just smiled, paid for the drinks and went back to my wife to tell what had happened. She found it funny!

After the music was done, we got to hang out the rest of the night with the Kreellers.

What a great experience to have for my first time out!
