MacAlister Tartan
Does anyone have a picture of a kilt in MacAlister tartan, modern or ancient? My surname is Alexander, though I do not know of any clan connection, I have thought about getting a kilt in this tartan.
It is a really "busy" tartan and I have never seen it kilted up. Just curious.

Can't help with a picture of a MacAlasdair kilt althoug I would have thought someone in Clan Donald would have one. However, have you considered either of the Alexander tartans?

I have a McAllister tartan kilted skirt. It's basted at the moment to be pressed, but here is a photo of the front. I just love this tartan.

I took this photo of a gent in a MacAlister kilt whom I saw at the Greenville Highland Games a couple of years ago.
I was mostly interested in his hand-knit hose, though, so I didn't get too much of the kilt in the photo, sorry!

Thanks for the replies.
I am going to look into the Alexander tartans a little more. When I first found interest in my Scots-Irish heritage, I only found the personal Alexander Tartan and had not looked since. Now I see one for Alexanders, in general, to use. Thanks, figheadair, for the heads up. I would imagine that it is not a stock tartan and would have to be woven to order.

I designed the Alenxander and Alexander Hunting (#1405 and #411 respectively) in the 1980s and both were originally designed as personal setts but I now regarded them as general setts for all of the name. I doubt that you'll find them ex-stock though.
