How a tank saved me during a meteor shower.

Last August I decided to watch the Perseid Meteor shower and got everything ready for the viewing. The day of the showers was very warm and I was wearing one of my PV kilts, sneakers and short socks (it was in the 90's F). We live at just over 7,000 ft. here in the Rockies and have little or no light pollution. The night started off clear, but this year we had a full moon which cut down on some of the viewing. I decided to stay up anyway until 1 o'clock AM for the best of the shower. The temps changed drastically and fell to the mid 40'sF and I was freezing. I went inside, got my tank on, put on some heavier hose, a fleece vest, and sat back down w/ some adult beverage to enjoy the show. The extra warmth from the tank (and the adult beverage) kept me toasty for the rest of the show. The Perseids were spectacular even w/ the full moon and I was able to see over twenty fiery streaks across the sky. Some lasted about three seconds shooting across the night sky leaving super sparkly streaks behind them. I can only imagine what it could have looked like with the full-moon light gone. Thanx to the tank I didn't freeze my buns off and look forward to next year's show.

Re: How a tank saved me during a meteor shower.

When I go off to the folk week at the beginning of August each year I can usually count on some bad weather, so I take my heavy kilts and a couple of long plaids - the sort which fall front and rear and wrap around the body.

I have been there standing watching the steam rising off me in some suitable reflective surface and people have come up and said 'aren't you cold?'

    Er - No.

Our favorite thing to do after dinner when backpacking....find a flat rock, bundle up...watch the night sky. I completely understand.
