Interesting Outfit

I came across this during my wanderings and thought it was a smashing cut for a jacket and waistcoat but it look as if they have the kilt backwards. If my eyes do not deceive there is what appears to be rosettes if you look closely at the left margin of the kilt.

I think you are right, the kilt is back to front.

That is one seriously buttoned up waistcoat!

Very nice outfit, looks very old to me. Are the colors Wilsons of Bannockburn colors? Is the kilt box pleated? Looks to me like 5-6 yards box pleat.

Yeah, someone posted this photo last week (figheadair, I think) in another thread, specifically to point out that museums sometimes get it wrong. I was immediately taken by it. I love the coatee's cut and style. Especially the very high-front waistcoat and the fact that the jacket's sleeves are done with the tartan on the bias. It's a nice effect that I hadn't seen before.

I wish I could see more detail on the cuffs.

It is a lovely outfit, even if the kilt is back to front! The kilt is box pleated, as someone asked earlier; and the cuffs appear to have an applique. ( the beauty of visiting this site on my tablet is that I have the ability to zoom in on some of these interesting photos)

You can zoom in and out on a pc or mac as well.

For a PC:

Ctrl + will magnify (hold down the control key and hit the + key as many times as you need)
Ctrl - will zoom out (hold down the control key and hit the - key as many times as you need)

on a Mac

Command and hit the + or - (hold down the Command key and press the - or + key to zoom in or out)
