Tartan Flags? Show us what you have

Hello, all. Hopefully this is the correct spot to post this.. But have any of you used your tartan material to make flags out of them? I have seen a few at games and gathering but haven't done one yet. One dilemma that I have is that my clan has fabric for 50-90 dollars a yard so I have not ruled out the possibility of just paying a bit more and having a nylon flag for outdoor use created. Don't want to pay a ton to make something, but if any of you have screenshots / ideas of what you did, it would help. I'm open to using anything from velcro to sewing grommits to material, albeit trying to keep it affordable (but I understand if it adds up).

Sewing a hem one one long end of the fabric, then sewing the end of the hem-pocket closed wouldn't be difficult. Tell us more of this custom-made nylon tartan flag business.

Interesting you should post this...I just purchased material from the Scottish Tartan Museum Gift Shop (see here on this site). The guy at the museum were fantastic and the price was great. I am going to get the edges hemmed to keep from fraying and get a 1 inch loop sewn to put on a pole. . Once I've completed it I will post pics. Overall, this was WAY less expensive than having one pre-made to order.

The Saint Andrew's Society of Jacksonville has a collection of some 80 tartan banners, 75 clan banners and 5 representing the armed forces.

The clan banners have the name of the clan embroidered in white thread.

The military banners are embroidered in gold thread.

We display them several times each year at Kirkin's, Burns Night, the Sponsor's reception for our local games, etc.

The annual Evensong service at the local Episcopal Cathedral is particularly impressive. Our banners line the outside aisles of the church and drape from the balcony!

Our Clan Buchanan Society Int'l has an official banner which is the Black Rampant Lion taken from the shield prominent in our various Chief's arms since around 1400. The tartan banner I made myself from light weight wool tartan material which we hemmed along the top and bottom to reinforce the edges and then we folded over one end to form a pocket which we sewed at the top as well so it could be slipped over the pole. You can see that the other end is fringe. The pocket holds very well without the risk of grommets which would most likely pull out as we fly it outdoors at Scottish Games and festivals.
