Kit in progress (Here due to Rule 11)

These are some pics of my late Elizabethan kit in progress. I am finally getting the time to work on my dagger this week. I hope to have the pics of that and my early sporran soon. In the mean time, I was just wondering how it's coming along. I have a few different front laced doublets in the English style, but I think they give too much of a renfair look. The hat is odd, but it was made based on a hat from the era. I'm looking for opinions here.

I like the kit. Are the bracers period? I'm just curious as I'm not familiar with period armors and they don't look practical to me.

The bracers are actually not considered armor in this case. As sleeves began getting looser, working men started to either cross lace them or wear softer leather vambraces to hold them back. These are part of a parallel kit I have for an English portrayal. I have found them to be quite handy for this kit as well since the portrayal is a dye merchant who hit bottom when Queen Elizabeth banned dyeing businesses within a radius of her palaces. The rather nice bracers are a bit worn as is the black shirt. Black was an expensive dye in the era, so a dye merchant may have worn it to show his wares. I do use them for fighting though. I wear them over a metal plate that shows through the openings as part of a different kit. It's all part of the joys of being a multi-period reenactor.

Thanks for the explanation. I also didn't know about the banning of the dyers near the palaces.
