    Not in a kilt!

One of my customers called today to ask when a job will be delivered.

I said I would drop it in that very day, he then said "I won't talk to you if you're wearing that kilt again". I replied, well I won't talk with you if you're wearing trousers".

What a fantastic thing - I'm making an impact in our community!!

There are a lot of Kiltaphobic people around. I have a friend of mine who's mother is from Scotland and the last time we were going to meet for lunch she specifically told me not to wear a kilt. I first told her that she was jealous because she knew I had better looking hairy legs than her and she did not want me to show her up! When she said that she was serious I then told her that was OK because I'd just not wear anything! Given the choices she said the kilt was the lesser of 2 evil's. I felt insulted but what are you going to do.

Ironically her son (16), asked me later if I knew how to wear the Great Kilt. I told him I did and sent him instructions. When she found out about this she accuse me of corrupting her son...my comment was "And your point is what?"

She is still my friend BUT she is still kiltaphobic. I figure one small battle won leds to winning the war...eventually!

    Richard,

Have you ever managed to find out why she is so kiltaphobic, especially if she is Scottish?

People like that just haven't thought things through, have they. I presume she feels it's ok for her to wear pants!

I wish I had an answer. Her mother from Scotland thinks it's great that I wear the kilt even though I'm about 5 generations removed from my Scottish ancestors. Guess it to each their own. However, when I showed her one of the Camo Kilts I made she was impressed that I could sew that well.

Once while talking about kilt she said that if anything ever happened to her I had better not wear a kilt to her funeral. I told her not only would I wear the kilt but I'd have to 'braveheart' her just to get even...her only comment was "You probably would!" My reply was "Your damn straight I would!"

This is one of those things in a friendship you don't try to understand, you just accept.

Kiltaphobic, now there's a new word!

I have a guy in our church who always has a dig at me for wearing a kilt while preaching.
He is Irish, as a kid he was "forced" to wear a kilt and do Irish dancing (doesn't know what a privilege it was). So now he has no regard for kilts.

He's a nice chap tho', I love the Irish people and have a great respect for (most of) them so we get on well.

I've been asked the same thing...would I lose clients if they know I wear a kilt on occasion? Well, the type of clients that would not trust my professional judgment (I'm an attorney) because of a kilt are the type of clients I'll let someone else work with.

I have yet to have a client react negatively about the kilt.
