    My Day

    Greetings all,

Just have to share the events of the day with you all.

I started out my ususal morning at the local coffee shop when in walks this one lass with two people I do not know, a couple from Ireland, they gave me a thumbs up on the kilt (Bear Maple Leaf), said they liked the cut of it.

After doing a little work at home went off to a neighborhood street fair. Ran into people that I have not seen in 5 or 6 years, said they had heard that I was kilted most of the time, and really enjoyed it.

Later in the afternoon I went downtown to an art show. Plenty of looks a lot of smiles, no one said anything, I was starting to feel a little low after the comments I heard earlier. Finally this one gentlemen stopped me and asked if he could ask me a question, (OK I was bracing myself for the what's under the kilt question) I said sure. He then proceeded to ask me about my shoes.

and the question on all our lips is this: what were those shoes you were wearing?

Isn't it great how every-day events are so much more interesting kilted?

I went to the movies last night with my wife, a friend who was also kilted and his wife.

We got the usual looks, some seemed to be disapproving (who cares). We sat in front of some friends I'd not seen for a while, a local pastor. He asked why we were kilted, I spoke just of the comfort angle. He asked if us wearing kilts would be offensive to a scot. I was glad of the info picked up here that the opposite is actually true.

The film we saw was Troy, not a bad film but a lot of killing.
Obviously the highlight for me was the garments the warriors were wearing.
Brad Pitt and others looked good in a range of garments he wore, they looked natural and comfortable.

As i walked out I felt much more "connected" with the film than others would be, having the experience of wearing a kilt.

Plain ol' ordinary black shoes. I'm still trying to figure it out. Unless you guys got any ideas.

Did the shoes have a high enough shine to answer THE QUESTION? :P

Saturday evening after supper, my wife and I decided to walk down to a small ice-cream shop nearby. It's about a 10 minute walk there and 10 back. Aside from a carload of pie-eyed redneck teenage boys yelling some incomprehensible slur out of a car window, there was no perceivable reation at all. I've come to accept this as the norm for this area. I suspect that part of the reason is an influx of imigrants... mostly middle eastern or arab extraction. Interestingly if there are comments, it tends to be mostly from women. Men just do double-takes for the most part. Funny to watch. Most of the questions I do get asked are pretty standard. Every once in a while I'm dumbfounded... mostly by the absurdity of a question. "How's the haggis today?"...or something equally witty. Duhh.

Tonight I was asked if my legs were cold. I often get asked that, if I were wearing shorts i would never be asked that question no matter what the weather.

    Weird..

Not really Graham. A kilt is much more open at the bottom than shorts. Folks seem to expect it to be a bit drafty. Back in March people asked me that question and my answer was "How can I be cold wrapped in this much wool?"

    Graham,

You may find this amusing. About 20 years ago (before I got a kilt), I lived in a village in Yorkshire. A Scotsman (who was known to everyone as Jock) also lived there and most Sunday mornings he went out for a walk with his wife, and was usually kilted. One Sunday morning I went for a keep-fit jog in a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, and who should I pass on the other side of the road but Jock (in his kilt) with his wife. When he saw me, Jock shouted over to me: "Aren't your legs cold?"

Great story Rob. I like Graham like to turn the tables on people in regards to questions like that, I guess that's my mean streak showing.
