I just do not know what to think

Well actually I do know what to think, and it is neither pleasant, nor suitable for a family friendly forum.

Well, it's a German chain, so a German word: "schlock."

They are just cashing in... They did this before a couple of years ago I IIRC... These would be even cheaper on eBay, I've seen this tat going for around the £15 mark from those sellers further down the food chain... They make PV kilts look luxury. The cheap kilts never do a proper job with the Hamilton tartan, it looks like something from a girl's school... no doubt some punters will buy it... though to put it into context some people's weekly shop at Lidl can be £30... will they add this in with the broken Austrian cookies and unidentifiable tropical juice drink on their weekly shop?
And why don't they try to sell kilts in the rest of the UK?
Clichés? Poor marketing?

The word I had in mind also starts with the same sound.

Yeah, cashing in. Score one for capitalism. Bare in mind, you get what you pay for. And, if I may quote my favorite line from Michael Myers of SNL fame, "If it's not Scottish, IT'S CRAP!"

I expect they will sound dreadful.

Well, has anyone seen one of those Lidl-kilts? The pictures do not look so bad.
About the price; a Stillwater Thrifty kilt is about £16.30 (US$27.95). The Lidl-kilt is £19.99.
Would like to have one in hand to see what it really is. If it is normal Lidl quality it might be pretty reasonable. They usually sell good stuff for the price.

They're being advertised as on sale in our local Lidl here in Hawick from next Thursday (10th July). Can't do any harm as it should be a cheap introduction to kilts for many who might never otherwise have worn one. If it can bring a younger generation into the way of wearing kilts casually it will be all to the good.
As some of the comments have said, some will have want a cheap kilt for stag nights, tough mudder, etc while also having a good one for weddings etc.

Well, Lidl have been doing this for years and they always sell out within the week. And then they do it again next year and they sell out again. This must tell us something.

It does make sense, but it isn't German.
