50th Birthday new handmade sgian dubh!

Wednesday was my 50th birthday and my son & his wife and my daughter had a blacksmith friend of ours make a new sgian dubh made for me. Iron John, the blacksmith, used black oak that is 200 years old and diver salvaged from lake Erie, hand forged carbon steel blade that was clay tempered, elk button and elk hilt gem, Stirling silver furniture and silver wire inlaid New Mexican Zia, and a hand sewn leather sheath. The sgian dubh feels great and balances really well. It has taken a keen edge. Can't wait to get to kilt up and proudly wear this one. I've got some amazing kids!

Absolutely beautiful sgian, what a wonderful gift, I'm sure it will be an heirloom piece that you will someday hand down, until then enjoy being the custodian of such a unique piece.

I'll certainly do that McMurdo. I'm sure when I'm done my son will take good care of it next.

I have a custom sgian dubh in the works. The handle will be lightning-struck wood.

    Yours is a beauty.
