My First Kilt Just Ordered

Well, I finally got my wife to understand the need for a kilt. It is a cotton utility kilt, mind you, but it's a start.

I started out a couple months ago with, "Don't you think a gentleman looks handsome properly done up in a kilt and all the accoutrements?"

To which SWMBO replied, "Yes, but you're not getting one." Ah, a challenge, I thought.

So, I've been learning about my Scottish heritage for a couple years. I've been wearing Buchanan t-shirts for a year. I started wearing my LL Bean Buchanan plaid flannel shirt and my sporran over jeans to church a couple weeks ago.

So, two days ago, my back was so bad that I couldn't walk from one end of the house to the other without a cane and a pain; small house too, mind ya. Yesterday I said, "Darling, I think I've found a solution that may help me back. Instead of wearing my pants below my belly with no support for me back, I've another idea. For as you know I've tried my old weight lifting belt for support to no avail.

"Therefore, I think a kilt might truly bring me some relief until I ultimately lose some weight. For you see, as a kilt sits at the navel and is held up by a 2&1/4 in belt, it would give me great back support and pull that excess weight towards the center." And everything I told her is completely true. I do expect it to help my back for the reasons stated. If it doesn't, I'll just complain less.

I told her I'd just wear it around the house and to any Highland Games type events. She expressed her concern that if I wore it round our friends that they might think I was weird. I thought quietly to myself, Darling, all of our friends already know that I am weird. But I let that go for now. Once she becomes accustomed to seeing me in a kilt daily, the concept of normal will replace the concept of weird.
