I mentioned in another thread that I asked my employer if I could wear a kilt to work. I felt a little emboldened and started yesterday the process of trying to get someone, anyone, in authority at work to approve of me wearing a kilt to the office. HR was completely useless and dodged the question without a yes or no answer, but had to slip in at the end "Please note that (COMPANY) is always interested in honoring diversity and becoming aware of cultural differences." Lawyers. *groan*

My boss is much cooler. We bounced some lighthearted emails back and forth. She checked out a picture of me wearing a kilt. And ultimately she approved of my intentions with two caveats:

#1) Don't make a joke out of this. Have good motivations for this.
#2) Don't let your twig and berries pop out. No, she didn't use those words exactly. But she said it in a way that I got the gist of what she was saying.

She also told me not to worry about HR, that if there were any problems she would take care of HR. "Express yourself". Now is that cool or what?

Monday morning I go to work kilted.
