I respectfully disagree with you there. I went to a concert in Estes Park last year and an Aussie band called "Brother" opened for Seven Nations. Talk about tribal.... these guys had a keyboard and a digereedoo and they were great. But then again Wolfstone is an entirely different class of band.

I dunno... I mean, don't get me wrong, Albannach and Wicked Tinkers are good, but I enjoy the musical skill required to put together guitar, fiddle, bagpipes, drums. I mean, I could go out on campus right now, round up a few guys and give them African drums, pull out my pipes, and we could play an Albannach song. But if you listen to something like Bodachan A Gharaidh by the Battlefield Band or Islay's Charms by Deaf Shepherd or Clueless by Wolfstone, you'll hear very skilled musicians at their best coming together to make a complex, yet pleasant, sound that interweaves traditional Scottish folk music with newer ideas and themes.
Just my opinion...

Sorry, but I find that sort of thing just gives me a splitting headache after five minutes!
A couple of years back, I went to a live concert by The Tannahill Weavers (who are based locally here in West Sussex!) who are, I think, much more musical than Albannach, but they were horrendously over-amplified in the theatre and I was obliged to leave before the end.

I wonder if they'll be playing at the Arkansas games this year?

I don't know about Arkansas, but I'm pretty sure they're supposed to play the Greenville games this year. Also, I think they're supposed to be at Grandfather Mountain again (but I may be wrong about that one.)

They are amazing - but it is a different experience. KiltedCodeWarrior turned me on to them last year, and while I love their CD (it's in heavy rotation on my MP3 player that I use in the gym), their is no comparison between recorded and live. If you have the opportunity, see them live. Hearing and feeling the drums and the wail of the pipes in such a primitive, tribal way is just indescribable.
In short, they rock!

Thanks, Mike, that brings back fond memories of Frederick and Richmond last year. Everyone needs to see them at least once, in an open air setting, and with a large crowd to fully appreciate the effect the music has on everyone. You feel the music as much as hear it.

I would also like to know what kind of kilts they're wearing. They look like they're gathered in the back. Does anyone know what kind of kilts those are?
