    Looking for sporran tassles

I tried searching the forums to see if anyone posted about this before, but I didn't find anything. Does anyone know where I can find sporran tassles. My father in law gave me one of his old sporrans but the tassles are missing. The sporran is brown (I think sealskin). Will post a picture in a few minutes to guide in the search. I searched ebay, google, and many kilt/sporranmaker websites to no avail. I'd appreciate any help.

    Cheers,
    Tom

    ## Edit: Here's a picture of the sporran ##

    OOooooohhhh,

    I like that kilt.

You may want to try and see if a vendor can get items from L&M Highland ( www.landmhighland.com ). I think they sell tassels...

look at www.littlescotland.com in the accessories section I think.....

since you're in Scotland, there should be no problem on getting sealskin tassels..... perhaps even a sporran maker there has some.....

I think Bubba got a cantle and some of the little metal cups which make up the top of the tassel from Stillwater. PM him and ask. The seal skin maybe difficult to come by thou.

You could always contact a reputable sporran maker and have them refurbish it as well.....

Or you could try making them...

Yeah, I did get them from Jerry at Stillwater, but they come as a set. Probably be smarter to contact a sporran maker.

See http://www.highlandxpress.com/sporrans.html. They say: 'Replacement Sporran Tassles. - Available in leather or fur. Single or sets of 3. - Email for Pricing.'

Little Scotland have them too: http://www.littlescotland.com/index.php?cPath=310_311. They say: 'Tassel : Leather Replacement, each, $11.00(CDN); Tassel: Seal Fur Replacement Tassel, each, $11.00(CDN).'

Thanks, emailed highland express.. but as clothing import taxes have been raised on clothing items coming from the USA, I'm opting for something other than an American supplier. Same with Canada.. it just becomes expensive to import things. Funny.. you'd think I'd be able to easily find these kind of things at my back door ;)

Just a heads up: Highlandsporrans.com will not help you unless you bought your sporran from them.

    Cheers,
    Tom

    Tom,

If you can't find tasssels in Britain, and you are willing to tackle the project yourself, I'll be glad to mail you a pattern for tassels.

Doc - would you be kind enough to email that pattern to me - I'm making a (Culloden style) leather belt bag from an old leather jacket that's been retired (after a serious case of road rash), and those nice silver tassels would just look wrong ont it.....

I found the pattern for the sporran on an SCA site, and it took me about 2 days to make it. Since the jacket was worn daily for around 10 years, the leather is nice and soft - maybe it'll convince me to wear my kilt more often.

I'm new to the forum here, and glad to see that there is somewhere where us kilties can chat and get some advise when we need it.

I'm not sure what type of tassles you need. This sporran plan has leather tassles.
