    The Nicest Thing

Wore my black workman's to our local small town 4th of July parade, then stopped in at the local museum. Hadn't seen it since it was upgraded.

Wandering the exhibits a young father said "excuse me." He had his son with him, a lad of about six. Dad politely explained that the boy was curious about my kilt. Dad said he had explained it wasn't a skirt but a kilt, something that men wore, particularly men from Scotland.

I told him how comfortable it was to wear and gave dad a UK card.

Sure beats a smart remark or an embarassed opening. Such a joy seeing a young father role model how to be a man to his son.

It's always good to hear of a father educating his son in a positive way.

It would've been easier for the Dad to tell the boy that it was a skirt and leave it at that. But to explain to the child what a kilt is, and to approach you on the matter, certainly speaks much about his character.
