Dress sporrans?

I'm starting to assemble my formal wear/dress kilt outfit (Kathy Lare will be recieving a check this week to order my snappy new "dress" tartan), and while I'm sure I want a PC jacket, I'm having fits picking out a sporran. Any suggestions, advice, recommendations, or pointers I should keep in mind? Has anyone bought a dress sporran and been disappointed with the materials, finish, or assembly? What about fur shedding onto different colors?

I'm trying to get the kit together for Hogmanay, so I have some time (which I'll need to save up the dosh) to shop around. Thanks in advance, guys.

My wife bought me a beautiful dress sporran from Piper's Cove in NJ (I think) for my wedding gift about 7.5-years ago. It's black leather as a base material, has white rabbit fur on most of the front and silver cladding at the top and around the closure. I'm not sure what she spent on it but it's stunning with my Scotts American tartan 16-oz tank, PC jacket and black tie. I've never had any of the fur shed from it. I really like the white fur as a look.

I believe that there is a distinction between a dress sporran and an evening sporran. A dress sporran can be as simple as one made of fur. An evening sporran is one that is much fancier—and more expensive.
I've come to believe that a sporran can express the personality of the wearer. Thompson certainly felt that 'cook cutter' sporrans were the bottom layer of sporrans. Currently my favorite sporran is made of skunk, and has brought a smile to the face of many people. Since it's fur it can be worn for semi-formal and formal times.

Head on over to the Thistle and Shamrock in Marina Square (Denver Tech Center) on Bellview and Ulster. They have many sporrans on hand, and can get some fairly quick.
