Utilikilt Brand Recognition in Sandy Eggo
Flew over to Sandy Eggo Friday for a visit with my brother and family, a birthday gift from my lady. No problem flying kilted out of Phoenix, AZ. Wore my tan UK Survival II and followed the advice about putting all my metal stuff in the cargo pockets. Unsnapped them at security, put them in my briefcase for the xray ride. Took off my belt and the survival II went through the walk through deal without going off. Did need to take the belt off, swung the buckle through to test and it did set it off.
No problem from the TSA folks until I was reassembled on the other side and headed for the gate. An old TSA guy said something about wearing a skirt being a comfortable way to fly. Just agreed. Did keep the cargo pockets in the briefcase for the flight to avoid the seating hassles they can cause.
Yesterday went shopping in Carlsbad, CA...retail therapy. My brother bought my a cool Skully cap from the O' Ireland shop for a birthday present. Today did retail therapy in Oceanside.
Would guess I've had at least a half a dozen positive comments about the kilt I was wearing (UK camo original yesterday, Black Workman's today) and EVERYONE identified them as Utilikilts by name. Great brand recoginition.
Was haunting the G.I. type stores full of Marine stuff in Oceanside and nary a negative comment.

I had a similar traveling adventure. I flew back to NE Ohio to visit my 90+ year old grandparents, mother, uncles, aunts and cousins. While flying, I wore my new black UK Mocker and pulled off all my metal accessories and went through with no problems, both ways.
Through the whole week (kilted the whole time), I only had two comments on kilts - one from an uncle that asked me about my bagpipes (wearing my SWK Nightstalker) and a lady at the FedEx/Kinkos that said "Nice Utilikilt!". She said she wanted to get one for her husband, because they're so cool. I have more people in the Pacific NW notice my kilt in a day that I had in Ohio all week. Pretty much a non-event.

Right in that immediate are Ron are probably five large UK events every year, and I see Marines from Camp Pendleton at virtually all the SoCal events buying kilts.
In fact, I'd wager that more Marines buy kilts than any other single demographic in California (except maybe gay men).

Ahhh, that explains it. Wandering Oceanside, the city croweded with Marines in civies, no one got smart, but plenty eyeballed my black UK Workman's yesterday.
No problems flying back to Phoenix from Sandy Eggo in the tan Survival II..
In fact, when we got our tickets and checked our baggage the young lady behind the counter for the airline said she wanted to get one for her man. Gave her a card.
I've flown way too much in my life...this is the first time kilted...and it beats all the other comfort ideas I've tried...loved it.

On a similar note, while my wife and I were cruising in the Caribbean, I wore my UK Survival most of the time. A woman approached my wife to ask if we were from Seattle. "Everyone in Seattle wears kilts." was her reason for asking. They have cut a huge trail for the market.
