    First Night In

St Patrick's Day provided the opportunity I needed for my first public appearance. We had a party at the house (it was also my 40th birthday) and I wore my kilt for the first time in front of 45 of my friends. Most were quite surprised when I answered the door in it. I got a number of smiles, some questions about kilts and Ireland, and a few "ah, now we see who wears the pants in the family". Of course, these were good friends who would have had some other similar comment, regardless of how I was dressed, and since they know my wife, it was probably an accurate statement (disclaimer here--she is a wonderfully patient and loving person who puts up with all my eccentricities).

Now I'm ready to venture out in the company of strangers...

    Mike,

Congrats, great way to "break the ice"; sure that going out in public will be much easier, now.

BTW, what kilt and tartan, any pics?

The tartan is Moran. I took a couple of photos, now I need to figure out how to load them up.

Myself and my friend Dan. He's the one who gave me the push to finally buy one. Mine is the Moran tartan.

Nice kilt! My first public outing was a party in my home as well. If you can make it past your friends, being in public is much easier - I don't care what strangers think. Welcome to the club!

    Very nicely done Mike,
well coordinated - extra points for matching the green lei (can someone tell me when they became associated with St Patricks day???) to the tartan!!

Nice pictures, and that is a beautiful kilt. I think you will find wearing a kilt out in public is really not difficult. People will stare, but you get used to it. You will even get compliments which usually leads to some great conversations with strangers who would otherwise not even notice you.

No need for opportunities to be provided... you need only any excuse you can think of. "It's kilt day" seems to work pretty well for some folks.

Nice pics and good looking kilts. Every day is Kilt Day so wear it as much as you can.
