Let's also remember that May 20 is Armed Forces Day in the US. This is a day to remember the men and women who are currently putting their lives on the line.
We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance. - Japanese Proverb
I will be in my Gordon kilt (along with PM Wgority) in possibly two parades. Each Memorial Day the band tries to do two parades as their locations are very close and the parades start at different times. If we are lucky with the weather we will be marching to honor those who have died for this country. G_d Bless their memory.
I am the Camp Commander of Phelps Camp No. 66, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War -- one of the SUVCW's missions is to actively promote the traditional observance of Memorial Day, as was the mission of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) -- the SUV is the heir to the GAR in honouring and remembering the Union Soldier.
Our camp will sponsor a "Parade of the American Soldier" on Memorial Day at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield -- a camp member will be dressed as a common soldier from each war, from the Revolution to present day (I will be representing the Spanish-American and Philippine Wars).
One of our local pipers will be performing at the Springfield National Cemetery's Memorial Day service as well.
