    Scottish Flag of Preference?

I was just wondering, for this particular crowd of x marks the SCOTS, which of the numerous flags for Scots is your favorite?

This is spurred by the colorful sporrans with rampant lions and saltires crosses made and posted by a skilled member.

So (in the form of an essay question):
Which flag of the Scots is your personal favorite, and why?

(I'll say mine later, as well as why)

While I certainly like the Rampant Lion of the old Scottish Royal flag, I'll have to say that I prefer the elegant simplicity of the St. Andrew's Cross. I've always liked the "Less is More" concept.

Saltire here too (I wouldn't be wanting it on a sporran though). Much easier on the eye and also the one incorporated in the Union Jack. I didn't realise we had numerous flags - I was only ever aware of the saltire and the scabby cat.

    Scottish flag...

The Saltire, mostly for the story of its origin, and the fact that it has been used throughout Scottish history -- as a ID badge on Scottish soldier's tunics, by Covenanters and Jacobites, etc.

    Cheers,

Lion - because it's origins are with Dal Riada, that became the "Lordship of the Isles and the Kingdom of Man", both centred on Islay.

Gosh, c'mon everybody reread the question...
He didn't ask which was your favorite national flag of Scotland, he asked which flag of the Scots is your personal favorite. Well, I would say the Scottish Royal Standard definitely qualifies as a "flag of the Scots" wouldn't you? (And yes, I know the present "royal family" is really of German descent )

    Joe,

See my earlier post; because there is so much history and custom behind the flags, it is important that we know this, much the same as wearing tartan, before we display them. I love the story of the Saltire and St. Andrew, so hence it is my favourite; others may like the connection of the LR with Robert the Bruce.

There's nothing wrong with a wee bit o' history!

and btw, the Royal Family has some Scottish blood as well.

    Cheers,

    Todd

The Rampant Lion is a fine, bold standard with it's striking colors & strong imagry, but my preference is for the Saltire. I like the story of it's origin & it's clean, distinctive lines.

It's made a mark on this Scot!
