About the buttons

I'm wondering wether I order a «casual» kilt like a Freedom kilt,
but on most photographs I see, it seems the lower buttons pull on the fabric, which causes a not so nice foldline to appear. I'm not sure it's clear. Have a look at: http://www.freedomkilts.com/store/im...dan_Tuey_1.jpg

Can it be avoided?

Brendan in the picture you quote had been sitting for quite a while before the photo was taken. He also is standing with his legs spread quite wide. He also put a large book in the back pocket.

All these things lead to the front apron having a wrinkle in it.

I do everything I can to eliminate that wrinkle. Including cutting the waistband at an angle. But you are correct. The front apron on the Cargo and Casual Models have buttons and they can sometimes cause a wrinkle. A quick swipe with the hand when standing up will almost always let the apron fall back down to its natural position.

This and the fact that buttons are not adjustable was the reason for the Dress Model.

You have been interested in one of my kilts for about two years now but as you write me in French and I do not speak French I think I may not have properly answered your questions. I am sorry.

All the kilts I can see in your gallery seem to have this problem.

And as I want a casual kilt, I don't see why I would buy a «dress» model.
I don't need the «swish».

And a question: how do the leather straps behave in the washer?

The Dress Model is basically the Casual Model with Straps & Buckles. The Side Slash Pockets have been relocated, there are deeper pleats, and the apron is wider. But there is no reason I can't put straps on a regular Casual Model Kilt.

I could also do a fastening system like on the Industrial Model Kilt. Basically 5 snaps on the waistband to allow adjustment and a secure fastener without straps or buttons.

I have my own Dress Model and it has been washed perhaps 40 times. I can see no evidance of change in the leather. I am hard on my own kilts as I use them as test platforms and destuctive testing. But the leather still looks almost as good as the day I installed them.

Send me your ideas and let's see what we can come up with.

sylvain, just to put my 2 1/2 cents in. i just emailed steve pics of my xmas party where i am wearing a kilt i bought from him approx 2 years ago. i have fully abused my kilt wearing it for work and play. i understand your concern about the 'wrinkle' but if u can get him to email u my pix or to post them u would see that the 'wrinkle' isnt that drastic. also keep in mind i was doing alot of 'sitting down, standing up' in those pics. i find a simple brush of the hand over the fabric eliminates the wrinkle.

If you will put adjustable straps on a casual model, I'll order a kilt tomorrow. Chocolate brown duc please. That's the only think keeping me from a Freedom Kilt.
