    Birthday Present

Over the weekend, a friend of mine gave me a killer birthday present. He's a flute maker and player. He gave me a traditional native American 6-hole flute. It's a bass flute in b-flat, and huge (29 inches long).

It takes a lot of air to play it.

That does look nice. Now for the audio attachment to the next post, perhaps?

It can be arranged, if you can put up with my amateur playing.

Wow! What a nice gift...B flat. What is the max hole distance?--I know I could never play that one with my stubby fingers.

From the top hole to the bottom hole is 7-3/4 inches. From the mouth hole to the bottom hole is just about 21 inches. It's a big flute. In fact, I wanted this flute when I first saw it, but someone else ended up with it. She pretty quickly figured out that she couldn't actually play it, so she brought it back, and traded it for a smaller flute. Knowing how much I wanted it, Silverwolf (the maker) gave it to me.

Oh, and it's made of Ponderosa Pine.

Ok, here's a quick clip of the flute (yes, that's me playing). When the link opens, click on download. You should then have the option of opening it, or saving it to your computer. It's a 5MB file.
