The kilt? How often?
How often do you guys wear a kilt? If you wear it daily, what do you do (profession) that allows it. I work in the custom home construction market, and it simply would not fly there. I have worn it out on the town and seen work mates, and it's no big deal. But, it would not be accepted at work. There are a few contractors around town that wear them (Utilikilt), but they are allowed to do their own thing, I suppose. So, here are the questions by number:
1) How often do you wear the kilt?
2) (If you wear it daily) What profession allows this sort of dress?
3) How does your significant other feel about it?
4) How do you respond to people who question your motives for wearing the kilt?
(I have a very good, very old friend (a girl) who just could not believe that I wear a kilt in public. She gave me a really hard time about it over dinner with other friends. I was really surprised at her reaction. None of my guy friends have reacted that way.)
5) Do you think kilts are becoming more popular?
6) Do you really want them to be more popluar?
(It seems I am seeing more and more people here in Austin wearing them out, but mostly they are Utilikilts.)
Thanks for your time.

1. Daily
2. Am a Priest, so can wear it under robes if I have to officiate.
3. Don't have one-not our custom. But my dogs approve...
4. I enjoy wearing them, they are totally comfortable, My grandad was Scottish but I'm Australian.
5.It seems they are becoming popular somewhat.
6. Sure, the more comfortable guys in the world, the less hassles. Plus Guys certainly look smart in a kilt, whether it's a Tartan or a Utilikilt.

From a fan of Mark Knopfler, I must first observe that I like your moniker!
As far as your kilts being appropriate at work, I don't see why they wouldn't be. There are several contractors (including some very upscale ones) who wear kilts daily. Some Utilikilt models have "modesty buttons" or similar features, and I would expect they could be added to other models.
1) I haven't built enough of a collection to wear a kilt daily, but once I'm home from work, I often don a kilt if I'm going back out for any reason.
3) g/f is all about me wearing kilts. She's in a pipe band.
4) Usual question about motives is whether I'm wearing it due to heritage. I find this an odd question given that my two kilts are solid-color (UK Original and Amerikilt). I don't have anyone getting in my face laughing at me--I'm big enough to deter such bs.
5) I don't know--I don't see enough of a sample to tell. That said, several folks have commented on my UK by calling it a Utilikilt, so the name is out there.
6) It would be nice for kilts to be a bit more common, or at least a bit more accepted. I come to kilts from the perspective of one who has ridden recumbent bicycles for over fifteen years. I've seen some growth in that market (even contributed to that growth for a while as a bike shop guy), but they are still not mainstream. Since I'm very much one of those "different drummer" kind of guys, I'm not too worried either way.

1) How often do you wear the kilt?
I basically only wear pants at work, I get dirty alot and don't want to mess up my kilts.
3) How does your significant other feel about it?
I would say 'supportive' but it's really a non-issue with her.
4) How do you respond to people who question your motives for wearing the kilt?
With confidence!
5) Do you think kilts are becoming more popular?
Yes, slowly but yes. I know about 3 guys around Houston that I always see kilted. But I know 10 or 15 that own one, but won't wear it outside of the wedding-funeral-Celtic fest/games situation.
6) Do you really want them to be more popluar?
Yes, I do.
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

1) How often do you wear the kilt?
I wear them daily.
2) (If you wear it daily) What profession allows this sort of dress?
I am a graphic designer. My bosses didn't like it at first, but I pointed out that the women are allowed to pants and asked why it was OK for them to cross dress. I also pointed out that kilts are exlusively masculine and reiterated the crossdressing point. That killed the issue.
3) How does your significant other feel about it?
She is getting a kilted skirt of her own to match one of my kilts. I get more action now,
4) How do you respond to people who question your motives for wearing the kilt?
Let's see... I mention that my grandmother was a Scot, my mother is Irish, and that I will wear my ancestoral dress, weather they like it or not.
5) Do you think kilts are becoming more popular?
Don't know, don't care.
6) Do you really want them to be more popluar?
I don't care either way.

1) How often do you wear the kilt?
I have worn one everyday since March of this year, and of and on before that for about 6 years.
2) (If you wear it daily) What profession allows this sort of dress?
I am a Graphic Designer/Conversion operator at a Financial Printing company
3) How does your significant other feel about it?
I am single
4) How do you respond to people who question your motives for wearing the kilt?
(I have a very good, very old friend (a girl) who just could not believe that I wear a kilt in public. She gave me a really hard time about it over dinner with other friends. I was really surprised at her reaction. None of my guy friends have reacted that way.)
This depends on the person doing the asking, the situation, and how they decide to question me, I tend to give as good as I get.
5) Do you think kilts are becoming more popular?
I would say they enjoying somewhat of a modern resurgence
6) Do you really want them to be more popluar?
Yes I really do want them to become more popular, as I have gained quite a bit of enjoyment from simply wearing the kilt and would love it if others could experience it as well.
(It seems I am seeing more and more people here in Austin wearing them out, but mostly they are Utilikilts.)
Without the Utilikilt I seriously doubt that the kilt would be enjoying the renaissance that it is today.
Thanks for your time.
You are welcome, thank you for the interesting post.

1) How often do you wear the kilt?
About 99% of the time
2) (If you wear it daily) What profession allows this sort of dress?
Videographer
3) How does your significant other feel about it?
She likes it most of the time (the 1% is usually something that involves her work though)
4) How do you respond to people who question your motives for wearing the kilt?
Rarely happens
5) Do you think kilts are becoming more popular?
yes
6) Do you really want them to be more popluar?
Yes
As to wearing them in your profession. There is a home handy man in Cincinnati that goes by the name UtiliChris and wears his kilts to work. There is also a UK wearing construction company, but I don't remember where. Graham is a sign painter and wears kilts all the time. I personally have done plumbing, poured concrete, rebuilt a porch, and turned bowls all in a kilt.
