2 straps or 3 weigh in men! (and women)

Grandmum has gotten to the point in my Cunningam where she is nearly ready to attach the straps and buckles. She asked me if I want two straps on the right side or one. I really dont know. Is the second strap on the right side necessary? I think this has been discussed before by Matt Newsome but I cant really remember. Anyway, my other kilts are the 3 strap kind(one left, two right). Opinions please. I kind of like the look of the two on the right, adds a little more flash. Thanks

I prefer all three too. I prefer the look of that third strap and buckle.

IMHO the three straps allow for better adjustment of the kilt giving the apron a flatter, neater appearance. They also look damn cool!

As far as I can tell the second strap is more for looks than any things else except for maybe tradition. It isn't fastened to the waist band and doesn't need to be pulled tight. All that being said I prefer three to two I think it looks better.

The second strap isn't necessary at all but it is part of a traditional 8yd. tank. I only have two straps on my Newsome 4yd. kilt but three on my Lochassynt tank. I'll stick with two straps on any other 4 or 5 yd. kilts I get but I'll also stick with three straps if I ever get another tank.

Just to stir things up…

To my eyes the hip strap and buckle look good.
The belt covers the waist buckles so Velcro will answer just as well.

It seems that I am going against the flow(again) and I vote for two straps.I have two ,made by Chisholms of Inverness, of my three kilts with two straps and I really cannot see the need for three.
