Yesterday we went to my in-laws house to visit my wife's sister who is in from Michigan with her three boys. I was not at all surprised to learn as we talked that she thought kilts were nice, but only appropriate for special occasions. She seemed genuinely shocked when I told her I wear a kilt 2-4 times a month (At this stage it is all I can do). When I mentioned members here who are full time kilt wearers she was really surprised. When I mentioned that there were kilts available for the cost of a good pair of pants she was aghast. I think I am going to have to wear my good Tartan kilt at least once so the nephews are introduced to kilts, and then wear my green canvas kilt at least once while they are here.

( sometimes I would take that as a compliment though)

I now have more kilts than pants. But it seems I am wearing them less often .... work dress codes.

That is a perfectly valid feeling and you should be supportive of your sister's choice. If she only wishes to wear a kilt only on special occasions that is her perrogative. I, for one, respect that.

There you go, that's the answer right there.

Getting the brother a SWK would certainly be a nice gesture though. She even acknowledged they are alright for special occasions. What's more special than a Tuesday out with the family? Or a Saturday spent home puttering around the garden? Or a Thursday after work, watching some TV shows?

Many people think kilts are costumes. It'll take a lot of people wearing kilts regularly to change that idea.

My step-dad commented the other day that I was started a fashion trend.. I had to remind him that it's actually a couple hundred years old.

Seriously though, I think if she sees that you wearing a kilt around on your average day it might shed a different light on things. I know it did for my wife...she wasn't too sure about the idea of me in a kilt.

And the SWK idea is a good one in my humble opinion.
