Ferguson Brit Sporran

For my 40th Birthday my Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess gave me (wrapped in pink camo wrapping paper) a Ferguson Brit sporran! I have admired them since Matt started carrying them at the Scottish Tartans Museum

It certainly didn't help when folks like Bradley, Dave, Glen, and JRB kept blantantly showing them off in pictures her on the forum or the fact that walkerk started sporting a beautiful beaver one at our kilt nights!

The model she chose was a Glengyle in black mink fur, black deer hide and elk hide braiding.

There have been a fair number of detailed reviews about Ferguson Brit's work here on XMTS so I will try to keep my own thoughts brief.

The mink is silky soft and the leather buttery. I am really impressed by the workmanship of this piece. It is as well made as my Freelander (and to me that is the highest compliment I can give a piece of leatherwork). Though beautifully made and elegant looking, it isn't flashy. There is a simplicity to the design. I see why Matt says these can be worn casually as well as formally.

The sporran strap that came with it took a little time to figure out but is well made and certainly unique.

SCD Dancers Note: I took it out last night to my Scottish Country dance class and wanted to make mention that because the strap fits snugly through the thick loop at the very top of the sporran it doesn't bounce very much at all (even when performing a jig). The tassles' length and weight keep them from "drumming" (not that they would make any noise against the fur front). A very good choice for dancing!

Darn you Jamie! I keep trying to block the Laird of Rannoch style sporran out of my mind and this IS NOT HELPING!!!!

Very nice Jamie, congratulations on the wonderful sporran, I have found the same as you that the Ferguson Britt sporrans are wonderful for dancing in, I was surprised myself at how well they do as they are rather large.

Jamie, That sporran is absolutely hideous. It does not got at all with your frame our your outfit... For a small fee, I can take it off your hands for appropriate disposal!

Just kidding (as I am sure your aware).... I think I need to run up to Franklin again soon.

I rather like the look (and that one in particular)

Congratulations! I love my F-B sporran. The only issue is choosing what to leave out of it because the space is somewhat limited. My other sporrans are Thorfinn's and my only problem there is I can put so much in that it is almost too heavy to wear.
