    My first sgian dubh

here is a pic of my first sgian dubh. I took an el-cheapo sgian dubh and cut the plastic handle off and attached it to an antler base that I had. Then I epoxied the crap out of it since it didn't have a tang to attach with. The sheath part I wraped the blade in soft leather, then ran a stitch one side and trimmed. I cut some really thick cowhide and stitched it and glued for good measure. Finally I wrapped it in the soft leather again. I am very pleased with the results, not bad for having hardly anything but creativity in it.

Very nice, clean work. I always enjoy looking at a tool that is purely functional, nothing that has no purpose there. I consider such a knife as a work of art. Congratulations on a job well done!

    Well done man.

Be careful though. One leads to two. Two leads to more (much in the same fashion as kilts actually). Until one gets yelled at for spending too much time DIYing and not enough time on "important" things.

Keep it up! It's more fun than "important" stuff anyway!

Not bad at all. Leaps and bounds ahead of the el-cheapo plastic handle. I might have to try this on my cheapo if I can find it.

I'm thinking about doing the same. Deer season is next weekend and I've got an old sgian with a cheapo handle sitting around.
