    Red coats

Anyone know of any good places for red British military coats (obviously that of the Highland regiments)?

Also what are your thoughts on wearing them?

You can usually find some on Ebay.co.uk
I have always been of the opinion, and military friends agree, that it is O.K. so long as you remove any ranks and insignias so that it is a 'Military style' jacket.

Oh it would be mockery to wear it ranks and insignias as if I were in the British Military.
I'm going for more of an older look, like that of the earlier highland soldiers.

Are you doing this for reenactment/historic purposes?

    Try Here:
    http://regimental-quartermaster.com/

He makes them to your measurements, and they are of a style that is no longer worn by the british military. He is one of, if not THE, tailor for the "Bydand Forever" living history group.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Chad

If you're interested in an 18th century jacket, as worn by the Black Watch and other regiments, try Barkertown Sutlers.

Thank you for this link; their Highland Coats look fantastic and the price seems fair! I'd love to have one made in the "Culloden" tartan if that gets woven. Speaking of which, I wonder what happened to that link here...

My pleasure. Glad to be of assistance.

I, too, wonder about the Culloden tartan proposal as I was also planning on making a Highland coat out of it.
