    First kilt!

    Failte!

So I recieved my first kilt today and I wam thrilled with it! I bought an SWK Mackenzie thrifty and I am utterly amazed at the high quality for such a low price. I will probably add belt loops and I need to get it hemmed a bit but my goodness I am so pleased. Obviously since this is my first kilt I do not have the experience to know what a truly worthy kilt is, but if you want a kilt for everyday wear I highly reccomend SWK thrifty.

    Slainte!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

from Scotland. Your kilt shouldn't have loops for a belt, by the way. Some have loops at the back for your sporan strap.

SWK Thrifties are a dangerous, dangerous gateway kilt. I hope you know what you're doing. Of course, you think you can handle it. You'll buy a couple more thrifties. Then, one dark night, a thrifty won't seem like it's enough. So you'll order a standard. Probably Black Watch -- after all, how scary can that be? It's a universal tartan. Everyone does it, right?

But then, that won't be enough, and you'll start looking at casuals and semi-trads at USA Kilts. Every now and then, you'll start sneaking peeks at the websites from across the pond. 16 ounces. 100% wool. Three straps. Belt loops. Fully lined. No, you'll say. I can't. I shouldn't. Then, after awhile, you just won't be able to stop yourself. "Eh, I'll try it just once."

And then you're done. It's over. And you're going to lay there in a pile of your own tartan, wondering how you got here and how your life (and closet) got so out of control.

    Trust me. I've been there.
