Two pipers' 1st St. Paddy's Day

A couple of photos of me and my son (11) at a pub gig. This was our first St. Padraig's Day with the Kansas Territorial Pipes and Drums, and this was about seven bars into a 13-bar night, so the ties are off, the collars are loosened and the sweaty Glengarries are in the car.

I'd also like to point out that the camera adds 10 pounds. Unfortunately, there are eight cameras pointed at me.

That's very cool! What was your son's reaction to it all?

The kiddo loved it, although he was running on fumes from about the 8th pub on. He was a real trooper and stuck with it until about 11:15, when we just looked at each other and were ready to go home.

It's a lot like Christmas: It was huge fun, but we were both glad it was over, and we were both glad we wouldn't have to do it again for another year!

Here are a few more pics. Notice the lady in the first picture, taking his photo. It was like that all day. He probably had his photo taken 50 times, usually without even knowing it.

The highlight of the evening was when we were leaving a pretty rough bar. A big, huge, burly, hairy, leather-vested bikers turned to his buddy, pointed out my kid and said, "Did you see the little guy? Dude, he is bad@ss!"

Congratulations on your first St. Paddy's day playing together. Something your son will remember for a long time.

Looks like he was really enjoying himself and good to see an enthusiastic young piper.

That's wonderful. What a great time for father and son. These are times you will both always cherish. I have two young lads myself and one thing they want to do is play in a pipeband with their dad. We are working on that already. They love to practice on their chanters. One is 7 the other will be 5 next month. Thanks for sharing your fantastic day with us. Us dads can get mighty proud of our lads and we should be ! Great pics. Your son probably got a big kick out of the biker guy's comment.
