    I miss wearing my kilt

    Howdy all,

It's been a while since I've posted here (those reasons vary, but basically revolve around graduating college, trying to find a job, and starting grad school).

Anyway...I just want to point out that I miss wearing a kilt. I wore a kilt once a month or so when I was in school...but anymore, I just don't have the occasion. I can't get one approved at my workplace (sometimes I hate working for the State), and I work too many weekends to go to Highland games, etc.

It's a strange thing. Something just as small as wearing a garment, with the sporran and chain/belt, hose, etc...it makes me feel good about myself. I've always been a person who stands out in a crowd (my most recent phase has been tye-dye), but that was not the reason I started to wear the kilt. It lets me get in touch with my ancestry, my love for history...and my manliness.

I'm not sure why I've posted this...has anyone else had this experience, where you don't get to wear a kilt and then pine for the experience?

    ~Yeti

Have you tried getting the Kilt approved as part of your heritage/national garb. I can wander round with a Sgian with immunity for that reason in law as do Seeks with daggers. Our government falls over minority things like this and probably that may be the case if you state that as the reason for wearing a kilt.

    Just a thought.

Good to hear from you again, as a full time kilt wearer I have not had that experience, and I do not want it. I think many people in your situation will wear their kilts when they get home.

Brian, I know what you mean. I don't wear the kilt full time, and sometimes it is almost a month between wearings. I usually wear my kilt at least once or twice a month, but if it has been a considerable amount of time I do get the urging to strap it on. It feels odd to go too long non-kilted, and it could almost be described as a relief to finally be able to get one back on.

Remember you could always wear your kilt out to the pub, or out to dinner, you don't need a special event to get your kilt out of the closet.

The one place I wear my kilt without fail is to church. It has gotten so no one recognizes me without the kilt. BTW it's good to see you. I thought you had drifted to the edge of the world and fallen off!

I know what you mean... I sometimes choose NOT to wear a kilt just for the sole reason that I don't feel like being the centre of attention that day. Then, later on I sometimes regret my decision and think that I would have been more comfortable otherwise attired.

I sympathize with you. BUT when I get home, the "official" garb comes off and I strap on one of my kilts just to get back into the "swing" of things.

I try to wear mine 2 or 3 times a week, some weeks less...

Now, in a few more weeks, we will be moved into our own home, not in one of my moms rentals. She can bitch all she wants then, it will be out of her control.

Good to hear from you Yeti.

ANY time is a good occasion for a kilt especially when it's a time you can decide yourself what to wear.
