Wisconsin Tartan?
Is there a list of State tartans anywhere? I have not heard of a Wisconsin tartan, but I do read on this forum about other states having one. Dos Wisconsin have one? It likely has cheese and beer colors on it.
Who makes the decision that it is official anyhow?

Go to the tartans sections, then click United States of America. Scroll down to the very bottom and you will see Wisconsin. I don't know if it's official or not. The state legislature would have to pass a resolution making it so for it to be official.

The WI tartan is "official" as of 2008, according to this article.

According to the Scottish Tartans Authority, Tartan # (ITI) 5582 was ...
The Assembly passed a bill Wednesday night (5th March) that would create an official state tartan, a pattern of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands of muted blue, scarlet, gray, black, dark green, dark yellow, black, and brown. " The bill was 'signed into law' by Governor Jim Doyle on 7th April 2008.
Go to the Tartan Ferret and enter 5882 in the Tartan No. field.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

You can also go here:
http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/
It covers more info than I wanted.
Wait, I checked and it did not have the tartan. See disclaimer below.

Yes, there is an official tartan, and if you ever make it to one of the two Highland Games in Milwaukee you'll see many people wearing it!

You can contact the Milwaukee St. Andrew's Society. They're the ones who really pushed this through legislation and wear it the most.

Excellent! Found a (well hidden) link on their web site to a kilt maker who is willing to make one from that tartan. Tough choice now. This is third on my current wish list. Wish I had the coinage to buy all 3 right now!
