    Exclamation Need help!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who don't know and I presume that would include most all of you I am the athletic chair for the West KY HF. I need help, I have 2 athletes coming in to lead demo's on the heavy athletics, but we as a committee has deemed the heavy athletics too dangerious for the college students we have coming to compete in a dorm and frat house competition.

So as all those who have traveled around to the various games, what else have you seen maybe in the way of amature (SP?) competition.

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

    Slainte Mhath,
    Rev.

You could still do the stone throws and the HWFD. They could do the weight throw without spinning. Just a swing and toss. Tug of War would be good as well.

The stones are not particularly dangerous. I mean, sure, someone could drop a braemar stone on their foot, but .... So go with the Open Stone.

I would avoid caber. There is a very real possibility of broken jaws and dislocated shoulders with caber. Also, someone who doesn't know the timing and positions can do a number on their back during the toss.

Hammer is not terribly dangerous for the competitiors. It's dangerous for the spectators, if one of the guys accidentally releases a hammer into the crowd. Throw hammer in a cage made of sections of chain link fence or suspended netting, or make sure there's a restraining rope to keep the crowd at least 50 feet away..sideways and behind....the hammer board.

I'd avoid the 56 pound weight for distance. We don't call that the "widowmaker" for nothing. However, the 28 pound isn't so bad.

so, Open Stone, Light weight for Distance, light hammer, tug of war. It sounds like a good morning of fun, to me!

Absolutely, tug of war is recommended. I hear that practically every Games in Scotland has a tug of war, often many pick-up teams line up to take on a championship team.

Just be sure everyone knows how to handle (and not handle) a rope for the tug of war...
