sewing double box-pleats?
Thinking ahead to my next kilt ( once I finish the Maple Leaf); I'd like to make a double box-pleat. Those of you who have already made one ( or more), may be able to offer some pointers/hint or tips.
I've read Matts downloadable, on box pleats, so I'm thinking it MIGHT work sort of like this (note, I did the 'scale' wrong, for the second row of stitching, i think - but the idea is there - i hope):

any help would be greatly appreciated

I haven't made one yet, except in my head
But you need to taper both pleats (inner and outer) precisely. The "inner kilt" needs to fit your hips/waist, and the "outer kilt" needs to fit nicely over the "inner kilt." So I'm thinking I would sew the pleats separately rather than what you have sketched out.
Sew an inner pleat with its taper. Sew the outer pleat over it. Rinse and repeat.
There are a few pictures of Lady Chrystal pinning kilts, and the inner/outer pleats do seem to be formed and pinned separately.
There was also a post (maybe a thread) from a fellow who had worked up a jig for forming db pleats. Not sure if he ever made a kilt using it, or how it worked out for him.
Like you, I would be very interesting in feedback from someone who has taken needle in hand and actually done it!

There was a thread by Ancienne Alliance showing pleating diagrams of double box-pleated kilts, but I can't seem to find it right now.
Given the amount of material taken up in the pleating, box pleats and double box pleats are made to the stripe, not the sett.

thanks for the input,Wompet. I would hazard a guess that with 4+Meters of double-wide material that I should have enough material, to plett to the sett. Also, just doing some "test-pleatting" ( i'll be using the Macnaughton Ancient tartan), it almost seems as if this tartan was designed, to be pleated to the sett, in a double box pleat kilt - just seems to work out, right on the boundaries.
Anyway, this thread doesn't seem ( so far) to be getting much input, from folks who have already made a double box pleat - guess i'll just haveta rely on trial & error (once i finish the Maple Leaf knife pleat, i'm presently working on ;0) )
