Season finally opens in the Great White North

MAN! That was a loooooonnng winter! First games of the season for me were this past weekend in Ohio. Great bunch of guys. We had a few thunderstoms blow through, but they didn't slow us down much.

I threw about average overall compared to last year, but not a bad place to start for the first games of the season.

Had the skinniest caber I've ever tossed--heavy and wonky but thin--it was fun to turn.

If it is that skinny does it wobble at all and, if so, does it make your toss any more difficult?

Yep Alan it was at least 21--really had to time the pull--no room for pulling late.

Luckey, being a bit twisted and 'wonky' makes you have to find a good balance point--or fight the heck out of it. Add to this a really small bit at the end to try to balance. A super heavy caber that is straight with no twists is actually fairly easy to turn if you can pick it.

Just more proof that balance, patience and technique are usually more important in highland events than just pure strength. Sure, you have to be strong enough to pick a caber, throw for height etc, but each event has it's own little quirks where technique surpasses brute strength.
