    $20 and crossed fingers

So...I put on one of my kilts yesterday and found that I was not only on the last and tightest holes on the straps but that I could still slip the whole thing down and step out of it if I tried. So much for that theory about them shrinking in the closet. Not that I weigh any less but...that's life.

Now Wicked is back in Chicago and my daughter and I are so definitely going and if I didn't wear a kilt to that, I'd be less than a good father and a Wicked fan.

So I took one of them (the Bobilishous 8 yd in Robertson Ancient Hunting) to a tailor today to get the inside strap and the outside buckles moved back an inch-and-a-quarter. And I v-e-r-y c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y explained to the nice Caribbean gentleman who was on duty what needed to be done and told him that, if he felt that this was gonna be too tough, I'd understand if he took a pass on it. He assured me that he could do it but was trying to figure out exactly how to sew one seam that was under the buckles. Earlier today, I searched the forum and read several of the posts pertaining to tightening up...and, Rocky, you were right on: the charge was exactly $19.98..."about twenty dollars" as you said in one of those threads.

So I pick it up next Wednesday and I am hoping that they get it right...I could not have explained it any more clearly if I was Barb Tewksbury.

Fingers crossed...if they get this one right, I have two more that need to be taken in.

The other part of that comment I make is usually "take it to a COMPETANT tailor".

I hope he does a good job for you.

I don't think that their competence is in question; it's just not something that they do every day (if ever at all) but it really isn't exactly solving a twelve sided Rubik's cube, is it? Pretty straightforward operation.

...and before the usual chorus of know-it-alls chimes in: I know that it should be a Rubik's dodecahedron...

Well, I picked it up today and brought it home...and it went from having to be on the tightest strap notch to being on the absolute last notch.

I had specified that they move the strap and buckles one and one quarter inches and by my ruler they moved it one and three quarters inches.

So back I go tomorrow to hash it out. Wouldn't it be nice if people did things correctly the FIRST time...

No...opposite problem...kilt too loose. Had to have it taken in not let out. Just that the fella managed to tighten it up more than we had agreed when I dropped it off. Just have to get him to move the stuff back a half an inch...doesn't sound like much but it makes a difference.
