The Frugal Corner - Kilt Store
Has anyone ordered a kilt from The Frugal Corner - Kilt Store? Thumbs up or down?

i'd give em a thumbs up. Got a kilt a while back - construction and material similar to a SWK but with more tartans available.

The search feature is your friend. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...=frugal+corner I note that a lot of those threads are old, so you might want to solicit recent experiences, instead of asking the forum to recount what has already been documented at length. Just a thought.
Best regards,
Jake

There used to be much discussion about the Frugal Corner here on X Marks. That seems to have all died out. I'm not exactly sure why, though in part it probably has to do with a number of significant customer service issues that they ran into....people ordering things from them, that the web site said they had in stock, but in fact they didn't....stuff like that.
Whether they've taken care of those sorts of issues, don't know.

I ordered and received a Keith Austin ancient kilt in December.
I am satisfied...thumbs up.

The solid green 13oz kilt I got from them took five months to come, was the wrong size and wasn't particularly well made either.
I ordered a 44 and was sent a 46, but I had waited so long for it, I decided to buy a belt (elsewhere) rather than send it back. They admitted that they had lost my order completely when I called them on the phone, but I know I clearly said I had ordered a 44, and they either got the size wrong, or maybe that was the closest size they had (?).
ETA: The odd thing is that I ordered custom length, and it actually seems to be the right length, which suggests they custom made it in the wrong waist size. I think they said 8-10 weeks for custom orders, though, not 20 weeks.
One of the buckles is in the process of falling off, despite the kilt hardly having been worn, and nobody can say it has been under any strain, with the kilt being a size too big, so I'd say the stitching wasn't too good to start with.

I ordered a custom length solid black 16 oz kilt in August, granted it did take quite a while to be delivered. Quality appears to be similar to, if not slightly better that the still water kilt I already own. From my experiences, (limited as they are), you are always better off getting the heavier weight kilt, even if you live in a warmer climate.

We can discuss build-quality and material forever, but most of what we say will come down to personal preference.
I bought two kilts from them, a lightweight and a heavyweight. Both were delivered within the advertised time-frame and were better than I expected.
Did I get value for money? Yes, I did. Would I buy from them again? Yes, I would - if I wanted an acrylic kilt. As it happens, I only wear wool now.
Regards
Chas
