non kilt - suspenders
just wondered in any of the kilters do the braces on non kilt occasions.
i'm a nut on suspenders ..... i know it sounds a bit hokey, but if you have seen the movie Santa Claus II, Tim Allen wears the absolutely coolest braces with his santa costume.
they appear to be a medium brown leather, embossed and with scroll work with what i'm thinking is either a red velvet or red satin background.
i've been wearing braces for years. the grandkids call them snappers because i let them snap me with them. i bought the boys their own snappers this past xmas, as now they are tall enough to wear them.
just wondering ....

I don't have any, but my best friend has some and I'm planning on getting some. They're part of the fashion that comes with our music scene.
P.S. Ambrose is a fine name, its my middle name and I don't see it too often

Has anyone else worn braces (or suspenders) with a kilt ? I have. A few times when I lost weight and my kilt wouldn't stay up on it's own and once last Christmas on a kilt I got off ebay, which although should have been my size is in fact a bit big (I'm going up to Scotland this summer and will get it altered). The braces/suspenders work well in fact as they stop the kilt slipping down and maintain it at the right hight (I'm on the large side and don't have hips to hang my kilt or trousers on). In fact in Victorian times everyone wore braces on their kilts. Many of the old kilts have braces buttons on them and a famous old picture shows Highland soldiers loading cargo onto ships during hot weather and having removed their jackets are all wearing braces.
The Kilt is my delight !

I don't wear suspenders either. I have several Regimental kilts that have buttons for suspenders. I'd really like to see a pic of kilts worn with suspenders though.
Here's a pic of the buttons on one of them.

There's an advert on UK TV at the moment with a hunk in a kilt with braces - that is suspenders here.
The ad is for Cadbury's Creme eggs.

I have one tank that I wear suspenders with. I find it most comfortable and doesn't slip down over my non-existent hips. My new Scot in-laws give me static and always correct me on the terminology as "suspenders" in the UK are apparently the same as ladies' garter belts in the US.
