Couldn't resist in picking up a second with Altrec's Fall clearance sale for $50. Now I have one to keep in my car for those quick lunchtime or after work hikes. Couldn't say no.

I just bought one of these from Mooesjaw.com. Everywhere else online seemed to be out of stock. I havent been able to find a brick and mortar retailer that carries them in Canada. I wish more companies would start getting in on this. Im surprised MEC, Canada's REI, hasn't tried making one, they are usually all over fringe products like that; for the Hipster appeal.

I have and use the original ElKommando - still hanging in there too! I am wondering if the currently available ones are the twin to the original. The word "improvement" is scattered around the net - some are referring to the Mountain Kilt and some don't elaborate on what is improved/changed. If you got the right size, there seem to be no problems or improvements I can see. ( Not a crack, many buyers are buying their first kilt and assume p**ts size is the same and get upset. )
Please, from someone who owns both original EK and current EK. Any difference? thanks

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Not having an original I can only go by what I have read. Apparently Mountain Hardwear had a Mountain Kilt that was not pleated at all in the back. I remember seeing maybe one of these on a guy once and thought it very much more skirt looking than a kilt. At that time I wore neither ElKommandos or kilts. The improved ElKommando was the addition of the pleats and I think also the cargo pockets. This gave it more the kilt look and feel, even though there isnt a heck of alot of swish. I have two I wear quite a bit and would have never had the original "skirt" looking one. So the improvements are the pleats and pockets that were added to the Mountain kilt resulting in the Elkommando.
