Okay.....here's who I am
I encourage any of you to reply with tasty little tidbits info about yourself :-)

My name is Iain, I'm 25 and living in Portland, Oregon with my wife who's fanatical about heavy metal music :-)
I currently own a kilt and 1/2. The whole kilt is a home-made Utilikilt copy made by my mother in law for my birthday since my wife was wanting to avoid spending so much on the real deal.
My half kilt was made by me in a pinch a few Halloweens ago when I didn't have ANY clue what to wear to a party I was invited to.
Quick solution:
Take a plaid flannel bedsheet, tear it lengthwise down the center, sew the ends together to make one loooong length of cloth and then call my mum and grill her about how to make the pleats right.
After spending too much time trying to roll myself up in this "kilt", I just ended up sewing them in place with some hemp string and a sail needle.
After putting a few braids in my hair, painting my face blue, putting on a rough brown leather vest and belting my machete to my waist......I had one kick **** costume!!! I even went so far to convert my paper money to the gold coloured $1 sacajwea coins to buy my Guinness.
While I was at the store....I got TONS of compliments and suggestions to go to local bars to participate in constume contests. When I was walking in downtown Portland...*I* was getting all the attention....on Halloween!!! go figure......
Before then, I had always wanted a kilt, but knew that a "real" one would just be too expensive. I figures I would find a wool blanket with a tartan-ish pattern to it and use that to construct my kilt, but I never found one suitable. Then I saw a guy duing a St. Patrick's day celebration wearing a tan kilt which I assumed was some kind of military kilt....I asked him about it, he explained that it was a Utilikilt, and was very surprized that a guy with my Guinness schwilling appearance didn't own a kilt.
Well......to make a long story a little shorter
I own a kilt now, and want to get a real workman's Utilikilt and a tartan kilt from Bear kilts and/or USA Kilts.
I really love the "Warrior" feeling I get when I wear one. I made a habit of sticking my Mauser bayonet in my belt when I stroll around town.
I also love the comfort, and the good feeling I get from my long-ago anscestors when I think of them smiling down upon me.
Anyways.....I have written alot, because I have so much to say. Here's to the good conversations I know we'll have

Interesting story. Any significance to the Moniker?? As you may have noticed there are a host of experience kilt fans posting here as well as a number of experience kiltmakers. This is a good focused forum and it seems to be gaining momentum with the membership roster. We look forward to your input and hope you enjoy the conversations as much as we do. Thanks for all the warm welcomes

I got my Brasilikilt name from when I was really dying to buy a Utilikilt, my wife would keep coming up with reasons why I should put off buying one. Little did I know, my mother in law here in Rio was sewing up a kilt for me based on the photos on the Utilikilt website....So as a joke we called it the Brasilikilt. Since Brasilikilt is such a catchy name , I didn't want to waste it .....so I adopted it for myself
my mother in law NEVER wants to go through any kilt making ordeal again..I wear the one and only Brasilikilt.
I have plenty of pics of me wearing it, but there's no scanner here, so I will have to wait until I get back to Portland in a few days and then I'll scan them and post here.

What would you say to a band which was both Celtic and Heavy metal?
Well...there is a band called Tuatha de Danann from here in Brasil of all places, which has combined those styles.

Their lyrics are in English, but a lot of their website is in Portuguese...There's enough english on the site for all of you to check it out if you wish...they are actually quite good.

I'm a about 5 hours west of Raleigh.
An hour south of Asheville, NC.
I do get to Raleigh a couple of times a year.
What can I say, even Barney from Mayberry would
go to Raleigh to Party!
