I don't get it, and I live in the USA 
I have no interest in "reality" shows, because I've never thought that there was any "reality". I figured they were all scripted, more or less.
This was confirmed when I was hired to pipe on one of these shows. No "reality", there was a script telling the actors what to say, a director telling them where to stand, setting up each shot with the lighting people etc just like any other show.
The teams on these sorts of shows tend to be cornball stereotypes so over-the-top that I can't see how anyone can believe that they're anything other than hired actors: there's always stuff like the "hillbillies", the "bimbos", the "valley girls", etc etc you get the idea.
