Burns Night with a dear friend
The Ingersoll (Ontario) Pipe Band is thought to be the oldest continuously operating civilian pipe band in North America, having been formed in 1910.

On the 25th (of course) they held their Burns night, and along with an old friend who is a former teaching colleague, current parishioner, and the widow of a former Ingersoll piper, we went to join them.

The "Mini-Band" plays for the rest of the band members, spouses, and visitors.

My dear friend Wilson McBeath was Master of Ceremony, and addressed the haggis in fine and dramatic form. Wilson is Pipe Major Emeritus and still plays with the band at age 88, although he no longer marches.
Wilson is a fine old chap, and has more on the ball than most much younger folks - myself included! His best line of the evening (as he grasped the microphone) "Is this thing working? (Crowd answers "Yes") Well that's good - I've spoken over more dead Mikes than an Irish Undertaker." Particularly good humour... from a retired Scottish undertaker, as is well known in this small town. (11,000 population)

Wilson with my beautiful Liesel and myself.

Entertainment after the formal programme was by "Three Penny Piece" a Celtic pub band.

What a great evening.
88 years young and still going strong. Good for him. His "dead mike" line would make Henny Youngman proud.
Thanks for sharing your evening.
