Most fun Burns Supper I've ever attended!

Boy, did I ever have fun last Saturday night. A local Celtic Hall that I'd never been to put on a Burns Supper. I paid the advance fee of 30 bucks really not knowing what to expect. The wee lass had previous plans out-of-town with a quilting group, so off I went by myself in a bad snow storm. When I got there, the only person I recognized from our St. Andrew's Society (City of Albany) was the Scotsman there to do the ode to the haggis. I did recognize some gentlemen from the St. Andrew's Society, City of Schenectady, and they invited me to sit with them (fine folks that they are!). After Andy did the ode to the haggis, we were entertained by a regionally known piper, then a variety of highland dancers and pipe & drum bands. It just so happened I was sitting right next to the performance floor as well, and to top it off, I ended up sitting next to Ann Stewart, the famous kilt maker. They had Guinness on tap, free soft drinks, cheese, crackers and fruit before the program. The program was followed by a very high quality catered dinner, with choice of a wonderfully prepared chicken dish, Shepard's pie, and salmon, along with salad, rolls, and soup, culminating with a traditional Scot dessert of some kind. For any of you folks within striking distance of Albany NY, trust me, this is about as much fun as you can have without going to a games. I recommend it wholeheartedly. Here's a link to the Celtic Hall: http://celtichall.org/ It was such a pleasure watching these young folks perform! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW2KzFW_M9Q

Sounds like a marvelous event, Frank. Glad you had such a fun time. That young pipe and drum band is really good.

Frank, your evening sound like it was great. We had a most excellent Robbie Burns night too.

Thanks Farmer Jones! I had two this year - one for the St. Andrew's Society of Albany NY on the 18th, then this one last Saturday, Burns birthday. While I had a good time at both, last Saturday was a hoot! I don't know how else to put it. Next year I hope to get a table full of my Campbell clansmen and women to this one at the Celtic Hall. Now, that would be double fun! Frank

The success of mine was in large part due to the encouragement, help and advice I received on this forum. Even the haggis was sourced through here. We were completely sold out and could easily have sold twice as many tickets, if the Legion hall could accommodate those people. The whole community has asked that we repeat it next year and make it an annual community event.

Yes "hoot" is the right word. That was what we had, a hoot.

Looks like you definitely "got your money's worth".
I agree with ASinclair, about those young pipers and drummers. It's nice to see there are new pipers and drummers coming up through the ranks.
