Kilted at Church for the first time
I just re-relocated back to the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area after being away for almost 2 years of work commitments. The area in which I lived was very conservative and wearing a kilt in public was beyond a hassle, to say the least. I know attending church kilted is not unusual for many who frequent this blog, but it was a first for me.
I attended services at the MCC Sunshine Cathedral in my smart black Utilikilt and a nice casual white shirt. Dress at services vary from business casual to shorts and t shirts for folks headed to the beach right after the benidiction.
I received several nice comments and lots of thumbs up. It was so nice being in such a welcoming environment compared to the recent past. I may not attend services kilted Sunday, but I will a couple of times month.

As important as it is to be unapologetically yourself, acceptance is always nice. Glad it went well for you.

I began wearing the kilt to my church, too, and it fairly blew them away, though I did get into numerous conversations, all good. I gave out my flier on kilts, of which I keep a number in my sporran. Numerous Pacific islanders at this church, and they understood.

That was a good place to start and the response was typical. If you continue to wear the kilt to church, people will be pleased and expect to see you dressed that way. Then they will probably tell you the kilt is missed should you not wear one.

I would be surprised indeed if any MCC congregation would object to a kilt.
I have never had a single bad reaction in any church I have visited, apart from being warned by a clergyman in York Minster that it was still legal in York to kill the Scots but only if they were bearing arms!

Hi
I wore mine to church last Sunday as I often have done for many years and was asked by some members - Is it a special day- I of course replied - you do NOT need an occasion to wear the kilt.

When I wear mine to church, nobody even notices it. (Maybe that's because it's underneath my cassock and surplice.)

I've never worn anything other than a kilt to church for years either in Scotland or England. The Scottish minister still mentions it when we occasionally meet (neither of us is in the same place now, but we keep in touch), but I guess I was the only kilted person he encountered at his church in Old Kilpatrick. No one comments on the kilt in England, just saying it is nice to see me. They obviously remember that the last time they saw a kilt was on one of my previous once or twice annual visits; so it definitely gets noted.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
