    PV Kilt feel

I know I am going to use my tax return to buy a USA kilt in the USAF tartan to honor my time in service. I was looking at the Semi-trad as my choice but I was wondering what the feel of the fabric is. Is it like a sportkilt very light and flimsy or more like Stillwater decent weight and holds its pleats very well. If anyone could help that would be great. Thank you for your time.

I have one of Rocky's semi-trads. It is the lightest kilt (material wise) that I own. As far as I am concerned, the pleats hold their edge extremely well and the material feels stiffer than the equivalent weight wool. Cheers

We've never had a complaint when comparing the cloth (11 - 12 oz material, teflon coated) with either of the companies you mentioned. If you'd like a swatch of the cloth to help make your decision, you can gladly send us a self addressed stamped envelope with a note of what tartan you want and we can send you a swatch.

I'm sure others will chime in with their thoughts on our PV cloth as well.

The PV USAKilts use is of very high quality… I have a casual in PA tartan, and a semi-trad in Scruffy Wallace. The semi-trad is a fantastic kilt, and the PV cloth swings well, has good body, similar to equivalent wool cloth, not stiff and artificial like other PV offerings. Of course, it's a very light weight cloth, so I haven't worn them much during this winter, but it will not make you feel like you have an "inferior" material. It feels nice in hand, keeps the pleats well, lays/swings well. It's a quality material - you wouldn't regret it if a light weight kilt is what you're after.

Of course, compare apples to apples… don't compare it to a 16oz wool cloth. But all the synthetic materials I've ever encountered, this is the best. Rocky knows what he's doing ;-) His semi-trad is a really nice kilt. I only wish the IOS in PV had a larger sett like it's wool equivalent! (which I'm saving up for)

I wondered the same thing , and I can tell you , only because I have bought one my self too - USA semi trad kilts are great ,they are not heavy like wool but they are not the lite stuff you see in Sport kilts , they are worth the money !

You will not regret your purchase!

I wear my two PV Casual kilts from USAKilts more than any other (of my seven kilts). I also have a 5-yard wool from Rocky, which is a wonderful garment, but my PVs get more day-to-day use. Good stuff, all.

I have a couple of USA semi-traditionals and like them very much particularly in warmer weather. I have not had one on since about September when the weather and calendar changed to the wool months. However soon summer will be here and I am sure I will get them out again.

I haven't had the money to spend on a good wool kilt yet (and I'm halfway holding out for a Norwegian Centential Tartan which will be extra pricey as a custom weave), but my PV semi-trad has served me well from Black tie to pub nights.

I just wanted to 2nd this thought. I bought a PV casual from USA Kilts simply because I couldn't wait until after St. Pats, a 'Slainte' themed fundraiser and Tartan day for my other kilt to be made. I wore the casual kilt to the fundraiser which was semi-dressy and got loads of compliments, no elitist comments about the quality, etc. It held it's own very well. Happy hunting!

ID:	17363I have the Army tartan from Sport Kilt and Macneill of Barra (Modern) semi-trad from USA Kilts (pictured). The Sport Kilt is definitely more casual. I have been considering getting an Army tartan from Rocky. Hopefully, he will get Maryland's (his neighbor to the south) tartan in PV. (Nudge, nudge; hint, hint..)
