Ebay warning: Pakistani outfit
This person (in the UK) is claiming to be selling a top-quality kilt and jacket, and has them listed for over 300 pounds.
I'm afraid somebody will be deceived, but let it not be a fellow X-Marker! Here's the listing
http://www.ebay.com/itm/full-mens-ki...item4aecc10ed2
The kilt has the typical Pakistani "authentic woven tartan" label which of course is intentionally misleading. Why oh why doesn't the UK require to have the country of manufacture clearly labelled?

Most often I've seen this label saying "authentic woven tartan designed in Scotland" but for some reason this one has left the last half off.
I've not seen the matching jacket label before, I don't think, but there it is. If you look closely you'll see that the word "lining" is misspelt.

Anyhow this outfit is precisely the "cheep imitation" that the seller claims it isn't. You can get those kilts, new, for what, around 40 pounds?
Oh, I know that Ebay abounds with Pakistani stuff, but I think this warning is called for because the seller is specifically claiming the opposite.

Thanks for the heads up.
The package on offer does include the full outfit, including sporran, belt, kilt pin, brogues, socks and flashes. The kilt is described as being a heavy kilt, made by top firm in Scotland. Well, yes, there are heavy eight yard PV kilts sold in Scotland which are allegedly made in Scotland. I have heard on the rumour mill that some final stitching is done in a Pakistani owned factory in Glasgow in order to satisfy the description "Made in Scotland".
I note the item location is in Poole England, but that is not to say the outfit was not originally sourced from a supplier in Scotland.
Those labels with the green border just scream out to those of us with some knowledge that there is a Pakistani connection. There are various qualities of kilts which share identical labels but the one thing they have in common is the Pakistan connection.

Just sent the vendor a question - "Did you not know that these are cheap imitations made in Pakistan?"
Will I get an answer I wonder!

Look carefully and you can see the hem and right hand edge stitching. No selvedge in sight.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
